So, I’ve just opened Max 2012 for the first time. I spend all day in a game engine, and it’s been a while since I’ve worked in a 3D package – so I thought I’d do a quick cloud material mock up. It turned into 2 hours of me fondling the new material editor before finally going back to the old one. Change is hard, ladies.
Anyway! I rendered my toil. It’s real rough, but I thought I’d share anyway.
Four clouds, moving gently, with an animated material. Looks a little too glassy to me. I think when it comes down to it, particle clouds will be the best way to go.

I agree–particle clouds will be the best way unless we do something in AE for post. I have Trapcode Particular 2 btw.
